Fire Fighting Backpacks

The Firexpress fire fighting backpacks are the optimal solution when the fire fighter has to go through very narrow passageways like corridors on a ship or staircases in a building to get to the fire.

The fire fighting backpack can also be the only solution if a fire hose for some reason cannot be put into operation e.g. due to a long distance between the point of operations and the scene of the fire incidence.

The system is mounted on a shield carried on the back of the fire fighter and is secured with a harness. The system can be delivered with an integrated face mask with an on-demand breathing apparatus.

The Firexpress backpack unit is a self-contained system with two interconnected 6 litre tanks for premixed water and foam. The system is driven by compressed air delivered from a composite material air tank.

The air tank used with the standard fire fighting backpack is a composite material 3.0 litre air tank, while the version with an integrated face mask with an on-demand breathing apparatus uses a 6.8 litre air tank. The air tank is filled to 300 bar.

The pressure of the air is reduced to 20 bar before it enters the water tanks. The air forces the water into a 1.2m hose, which is connected to the lance.

The lance used with the backpack is a shorter version of the normal Firexpress lance for easier manoeuvring in confined areas but with almost all the same features and benefits.

As the water entering the tubes inside the water tanks originates from the bottom of the water tanks, only water is supplied to the discharge hose. No air will be forced into the hose as long as there is water in the tanks.

The system delivers a flow of 22 litres of micro-drops per minute or 110 litres of aspirated foam per minute at a range of 11 metres.

The system can be delivered with an integrated face mask with an on-demand breathing apparatus delivering air at a positive pressure of 8 bar. It has a pressure gauge measuring the pressure in the air tank. The pressure gauge has an audio alarm that is activated when the pressure reaches 50 bar.
